Make a Bequest
{ Home | Help Us | Make a Bequest }

By remembering Cara’s work in your will, you are providing children, adults and families who really need your support the
opportunity of a full and more rewarding life in the future.
The decision to make a gift by way of a bequest is a very personal one. For many people, it’s because of a memorable association through family or friends, for others it’s a belief in helping the next generation change things for the better.
However big or small your gift, you can be sure that it will mean a lot to all who make use of our services.
Helen and Ian are among a growing number of ageing parents and carers. Their 33-year-old daughter Karyn has used Cara’s services for many years.
Karyn’s future is of the most significance for her parents.
A vital part of the money Cara uses to carry out its work now and in the future comes from gifts left in wills.
Her mother Helen feels that many people may not be aware the difference a gift to Cara can make.
When you leave a bequest to Cara, you give a gift that lasts longer than a lifetime, it is your legacy to a better future for people with a disability and a gift that will be remembered by future generations.

Brian has helped Cara’s good work live on
Include a Charity Week, held from 17 to 21 September this year, celebrated people who have chosen to include a charity in their wills, and encouraged others to think about doing the same.
Cara took the opportunity to celebrate one of our bequest givers, Brian Averay, described as a man who always put others’ happiness before his own.
As a young boy, Brian attended a camp for children with a disability at Oakbank on a number of occasions. Brian’s treasured memories of these camps lead him to make the compassionate decision to leave a bequest to the Cara Camps for Kids Oakbank Camp in his will. The camp supports boys with a disability on a camp in January each year, to provide a fun-filled long weekend of swimming, playing and sports.
Brian lived in a Cara accommodation service for over nine years before he passed away in early 2012.
Michelle Racanati, a Cara staff member who supported Brian in the service, describes Brian’s loving personality.
“Brian made sure he had a good relationship with all the staff that supported him. He was a man of integrity and good humour, and was a pleasure to be around.”
“Brian’s bequest shows that Cara had a very special place in his heart. He is an inspiration,” said Michelle.
Include a Charity Week may create awareness for just a week, but the need for bequest giving is ongoing.
“It’s so important for people to include gifts to their favourite charity in their will, after taking care of family and friends, to help the good work go on for future generations,” says Fiacre Baker, Cara Executive Manager, Marketing, Fundraising & Community Partnerships.
